Cupboards & Window Seat for Period Farmhouse in Farnham Common

Farnham Common, Buckinghamshire

Our client in Farnham Common approached us to maximise storage in the spare box room of their period farmhouse.

The box room already had built-in cupboards housing the boiler and a tall chest of drawers, which we removed to better utilise the space. The client needed storage for larger items, such as suitcases, rather than clothing.

To address this, we proposed removing the integrated tall drawers and extending the existing cupboards with upper doors to wrap around the corner. We also suggested adding a window seat with storage cupboards underneath, ensuring it didn’t block the natural light. This created a cosy nook with a lovely view outside.

In place of the drawers, we crafted a one-door cupboard with shelving. The adjacent two-door cupboard is deeper and extends into the corner, offering ample space for suitcases of all sizes. Alongside the deeper cupboard, the window seat features three push-to-open cupboard doors for additional storage.

We meticulously designed the doors to match the existing cupboards by taking precise measurements of the mouldings and door knob positions. The cupboards were painted in Farrow & Ball’s House White to perfectly match the existing furniture.
